Who Am I?

Hi there! My name is TJ Brits and I'm a 13-year-old Freestyle dancer. My dance journey started when I was 5, and I entered my first competition at 6. In competitive freestyle, there are 5 levels—Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, Championship, and Premier Championship.
I hit Championship level when I was just 7, and by 8, I made it to Premier Championship (which means I went from Beginner to Premier Championship in only 18 months! 😊)
But in the last quarter of 2022, something crazy happened—I broke BOTH my feet while I was dancing, just three months apart. I had to sit out for a while, but after six months, I came back stronger than ever! A lot of people now know me as "the girl who broke both her feet."
I have worked really hard to get to where I am today. Now I am working even harder to get ready for the World Championships in June this year where I will be competing in the girls under 14 years Premier Championship section, and I need all the help I can get to make it there. Traveling from South Africa to the UK is super expensive, so any donation, big or small, would mean the world to me. 😊
Thank you so much for your support! 💙✨

What is Freestyle Dancing?
The dazzling world of Freestyle dancing is where glitz, glamour, and adrenaline collide on the dancefloor. Rhinestones shimmer under the lights, and dancers drenched in spray tan and attitude ignite the floor in a whirlwind of hyper-fast, heart-pounding techno beats. With gravity-defying backflips, lightning-speed spins, and electrifying confidence, competitors have mere seconds to captivate the judges. Costumes are extravagant, hair is sky-high, and sass is just as essential as skill. More than just a sport, Freestyle dance is a spectacle—an unapologetic explosion of energy where the boldest shine the brightest. ✨
Freestyle dance originated in the UK during the 1970s from the hugely popular Disco era and thanks to the movie, Saturday Night Fever. The style of dance slowly evolved from Disco (which is still a form of dance today) to Freestyle in the UK, and in the 1980s, was introduced to South Africa.
The medal test syllabus is currently owned by the SADTA (South African Dance Teachers’ Association) and is recognized by the IDTA (International Dance Teachers’ Association), ADFP (Association of Dance & Freestyle Professionals), and the British Dance Council.
Freestyle has evolved over time to include a variety of diverse moves such as runs, spins, kicks, leaps, and lots of arm and hand actions. Today it is one of the fastest forms of dance in the world.
The competitions run throughout the year feature Freestyle and Slowdance as the core sections, while other categories like Disco, Rock 'n Roll and Medal Syllabus vary depending on the event.
The Freestyle World Championships takes place in Blackpool, UK each year in June and is run by the president of the IDTA. Dancers have to meet strict criteria in order to qualify to compete in the event.
TJ is an exceptionally talented dancer and supporting her journey to the World Championships in Blackpool is a privilege. Every donation brings her closer to her dream. Let's make it happen together!
